Chatillon-Coligny — History
Chatillon-Coligny is a city in France.
The town of Chatillon-Coligny is located in the central part of France, in the Loiret department of the Centre region. Administratively, it is part of the canton of Chatillon-Coligny in the Montargis arrondissement.
The city received its current name in 1896. At least since the middle of the XV century, that is, since the aristocratic Coligny family became feudal lords here, the city was called Chatillon-sur-Loin — after the name of the Loin River that flowed through it. On August 18, 1643, the possession of Chatillon-sur-Loing was proclaimed the Duchy of Coligny and a peerage (when Gaspard III de Coligny was a favorite of the King of France).
The great French physicist Antoine Cesar Becquerel was born in Chatillon-Coligny in 1788.
