Pompei is a city and comune in the province of Naples in Campania, southern Italy, famous for its ancient Roman ruins. As of 2010 its population was of 25,671.[1]
Modern Pompei was founded in 1891, after the building of the sanctuary, started by Bartolo Longo. He is considered as the founder of the modern town.
